DXpedition diary #5 - The last days and some statistics
Friday, March 24
Yesterday and day before K index was high and propagation was worse than other days. QSO rate went down and noise level increased. We continued to work with the previous schedule, paying attention also to 160 and 80m bands.
Today we had already 2nd power outage.
QSO number with S21ZEE passed 20 000. We bought tickets for the bus to Dhaka for Tuesday morning. 2 full days remaining.
Sunday, March 26
In the morning of the last day Dmitry/UT7UJ managed to work W8LRL on top-band, this is our only QSO with North America on 160m. Long distance QSOs on 160 and 80m bands would not be possible without beverage antennas.
Few days ago we identified light fixture which was causing constant noise on all bands.
At 23:59 local time (17:59 GMT) our license expires.
Monday, March 27
In total with both callsigns we put about 51 892 QSOs in the log, which includes 14 374 unique callsigns from 139 different DXCCs, all 40 WAZ zones and also 8548 dupes, when considering both DX-pedition callsigns as one. To put it into perspective, considering average daily QSO rate the team spent around 2 days out of the total 12 days to log dupes. Two "slot dupe leaders" have even 7 QSOs on single band/mode slot. "Total dupe leader" made 21 duplicated QSOs counting all slots of both callsigns.
Today we are taking down antennas, packing and will have farewell dinner in Cinderella hotel, which was our home for the last 2 weeks.
Tuesday morning 7:30 AM we will take the bus to Dhaka. The trip is 400 km long with two ferries included. The ride on Bangladesh roads is quite memorable even as passenger of big inter-city bus. Good that I don't have to drive. In the evening after 19:00 we should arrive to Dhaka, but due to the observed traffic jams in the capital we will go straight to the airport and wait for our flight to Istanbul 6 AM Wednesday morning.
