Austrian Radio Amateurs Mark Their Centenary: ÖVSV Celebration Video

The Austrian Amateur Radio Society ÖVSV celebrated its centenary on September 21, 2026.

At the heart of the celebration is a play written eight years earlier specifically for ÖVSV’s centenary by the late Professor Wolf Harranth, OE1WHC. Alongside humorous episodes, the author presents a distinctly dystopian vision of the future while also criticizing ÖVSV’s strict federal structure, encouraging reflection on existing structures and their development. As the ÖVSV president notes, this glimpse into a possible future makes us realize how favorable our situation is today, while also showing that the future is in our own hands: an organization can be shaped positively only through each person’s participation.

The play focuses on the internal life of an amateur radio organization, which makes it relevant for Latvian radio amateurs as well: the questions of association structure, member involvement, and the future are the same.

The Latvian Radio Amateur League joins in congratulating ÖVSV on its centenary and wishes its Austrian colleagues many more good years ahead.
